If you've been waiting to command a fleet to face off against the Anomaly, you'll have to wait a little longer.

Homeworld 3 is delayed until February 2024, and the news comes via the game's official Twitter account.

“Our main goal is to deliver a Homeworld experience that lives up to the standards set by its predecessors and is in keeping with the incredible legacy of this series,” reads the announcement. “Homeworld 3 is poised to be exactly that, but to fully realize that vision, we need more time to hone and polish the game.”

Homeworld 3 comes years after the original Homeworld games developed by Relic Entertainment. The game is set 100 years after the disappearance of Karan S'Jet, with her successor Imogen S'jet seeking answers to what happened. New features include a cover system that allows ships to dodge and weave around massive structures and the wreckage of other ships, using objects as cover as they advance towards an enemy fleet.

In a preview of Homeworld 3 in 2022, I was impressed with the AI and 3D pathfinding, which leveraged all dimensions of available space for combat. We will make sure to share the details when Homeworld 3 has a release date.

It's definitely a bummer, given how incredible the little bit I played almost a year ago was. Still, I'm always down for delays and teams having enough time to polish their plays, so long as team health is considered through these decisions. Hopefully, when Homeworld 3 arrives in 2024, it will be one of the best PC games available.
