What you need to know

  • CD Projekt RED has shared its financial results for the first quarter of 2022, revealing that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has sold over 50 million copies.
  • The Witcher franchise as a whole has sold over 75 million copies.
  • CD Projekt RED currently has several Witcher games in development, both internally and with external teams.

The White Wolf's apparently final story is not slowing down its sales.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has sold over 50 million copies, according to CD Projekt's Q1 2022 earnings report. That's a 10 million copy increase from April 2022, when it was reported that the game had surpassed 40 million copies sold. Meanwhile, The Witcher game franchise crossed 75 million, meaning that The Witcher and The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings sold 25 million copies combined.

Looking forward, CD Projekt RED is developing a number of new games within The Witcher universe, including one called "Project Polaris", intending to release a new trilogy. CD Project RED oversees an external team, Fool's Theory, which is in early development and working on a new version of the first Witcher game. There is also a more stylized project in development at The Molasses Flood, which was recently renewed due to team layoffs.

In addition to the world of The Witcher, CD Projekt RED is working on Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, the first and only expansion for the 2020 game. Play Days media event.

Windows Central's take

The ongoing sales strength of The Witcher 3 cannot be denied. This is due to many things: renewed interest from the Netflix series, a quality Nintendo Switch port, the recent next-gen update, but above all, the game's quality still speaks for itself. I haven't had time to play the updated version in over an hour, but I have to go back to it.
